Race records tumbled regularly at Saturday's Napier Harrier Club Road Racing Championships on the Atawhai circuit.
Although school holidays impacted on the junior grades, the quality of the racing was still of a high standard. Annie Creagh (7.36) displayed her tremendous silky style to lower her own course record by 34 seconds in winning the Girls 12 year old title, ahead of Jasmine Ngan-Sue and Georgia Creagh.
Ten year old Jack Smidt (7.38) produced a great run to claim the Boys 12 year old title. He snuck under Brendan Speakman's course record by two seconds, which highlights his exciting development over this season.
Laura Nagel enhanced her reputation for consistency with another robust display to take the Womens 16 year old title (McKie Trophy). Nagel (14.38) smashed Danielle Kiely's record by an amazing 76 seconds, while runner up Hannah Drury (15.09) suggested she has a great future in the sport.
Brendan Speakman (14.43) claimed the Boys 14 year old title (Kevin Weatherley Cup) in a lively struggle with Charlie Chittenden.
Jessica Middleton (15.43) ran strongly to claim the Girls 14 year old title (Finlayson Cup), ahead of Laura Smith.
Ben Fulton won his first club title (Duffy Cup) by claiming the Mens 16 year old race.
Nationally ranked Eric Speakman (16.13) exploded from the beginning of the 5km Mens 19 year old (Curtis Cup) race and his awesome display was rewarded, by clipping 57 seconds off Daniel Wallis' course record.
Aleesha Heywood (26.26) claimed the Womens 19 year old championship.
Cheryl Simpson (23.13) celebrated 40 years in the sport by claiming the Masters Women's title (Nichols Trophy), while Shayna Heywood(23.38) took out the Senior Womens title (Jenkins Cup) and recorded a new course record.
In the senior mens race over 10km, first home was Gordon Clarke (36.35), a visitor from Wellington Harriers but was ineligible for any title. Therefore, Iain Murray (37.33) won the Masters Mens title (Strachan Trophy), while Craig Mathers (38.29) displayed a steady improvement to claim the senior men's title (Peter Tait Cup) ahead of pre-race favourite James Bell.
