Laurence Cup

The Laurence Cup which has been fiercely contested since 1937 and also the final open handicap for the season, was won by Chris Wong. All 3 place getters finished within 43 seconds of each other. Second place was won by Mark Walwyn followed by Frank Busch for third, while Craig Mathers (37:46) was the fastest over the 10km distance. Lead off runner Sheila Smitd won the Alan Angus Cup. The opposition tried hard to close the gap on Smitd but with a 1:20 head start on the next runner this proved an impossible task. The ever improving Gina Finlayson showed once again that she favours the flatter course and finished second in good time. Third to finish was Kim Creagh in her personal best time, while Hannah Drury had the quickest 5 km course time 19:56. In the men's 19, Eric Speakman went uncontested in his 5 km run to win with a great time of 16:23. Being a day with good conditions for personal best times to be achieved, Brendan Speakman also pulled out a best time of 17:59 which was also the fastest time for the 5km Boys 14. This also helped Brendan to securer 3rd place not far behind Samuel Hall and Charlie Chittenden. Chittenden was first across the line also with a pleasing time of 19:02 while making it look easy. Jess Middleton won the girls 14, 5km race comfortably by 36 seconds from Holly Edmonds and Emma Pearson. Holly Edmonds (21.00) recorded the fastest time. In the 2km mixed 12 years race, Jack Smitd pulled out his best run of the season. Although he finished 2nd overall he had the fastest time and his own personal best, 7:31. Jason Pearson finished first across the line and also ran an impressive race to catch front runner Jodi Nagel. Nagel still managed to hold on to a placing, finishing 3rd. In the 1km mixed Cub race, Fraser Pearson was first (4:35) with Joshua McCormack 18 seconds behind. Yuri Takemoto kept the boys close finishing third only 9 seconds behind McCormack. Kim
