Madness Continues...

The Tutaekuri River was once again the stage for one of the more interesting races of the Napier Harriers' season. The "Marett Madness" always seems to be the perfect name for this race, as the picking of the teams always has an air of Madness about it. This relay seems to be a big favourite with the younger competitors, which I'm sure, has something to do with the river crossing. Where the older competitors make an effort not to get too wet, getting wet seems to be the goal for most of the younger ones.

Sam Bish was first to get wet in the one kilometre stage of the race, completing his lap in the fastest time (6:29). Climbing out of the river with Jonathan O'Shaughnessy, Hamish Hall and Jodi Nagel hot on his heal, he still managed the tag that sent Cameron Poole-Smith rocketing on his way. Cameron, who completed the third fastest long lap of the day (16:05), went on to tag Phillipa Lintott who was part of a running duo with Matthew McGirr. Next up for this stunning team and bringing it home, was North Island Secondary School 1500m champion, Eric Speakman (15:51) who caught new comer Jake Tully at the Waiohiki Bridge and held on for a comfortable win. Jake finished his leg in an impressive time of 17:39 to bring his team of Breanna Gamblett, Mark Speakman and Karl Iavetta home in second place. But it was Marno Wijnsma on the last lap, who had the over all fastest long lap time for the day, with a time of 15:31.

Another run to be noted came from Kayden Hall, who in the 2nd 4k lap had the fastest lap time of 19.05. The last mention goes to Georgia Creagh who, with a huge smile on her face, made her almost traditional fall into the river as she ran her river crossing.
