The Napier Harrier Club's youth men's team sucessfully defended their title at the annual Redstag Forest Relays in Rotorua on Saturday.
Eric Speakman spearheaded the team, running the fastest time of the day over the 3.2km lap. Speakman also shaved another second off his own course record, dropping the record to 10:04 and handing a massive 1 minute seven second lead over to Toa Elphick-Iaveta. Elphick-Iavetta ran the sixth fastest time, extending the lead by a further 18 seconds before the Egmont Athletics started their fight back. Egmont recorded the second, third and fourth fastest times but Napier's Jake Tully and Brendan Speakman ran eighth and fifth fastest times to hold on for the win by just 26 seconds.
Napier's junior women were also the defending champions but unfortunately the team of Annie Creagh, Jess Middleton, Sophie Rose and Holly Edmonds could not emulate their male club mates, finishing fourth.
