On a very cold day 20 hardy Napier souls took part in the Pakowhai Relay and took out the first three placings.
A Napier strong team of Devon Beckman, who lead off on lap one and came in just behind Hastings. Eric Phimister then took command and took Napier to a healthy lead over two laps and Eric Speakman put us in an ultra healthy lead followed by two other Napier teams. In fact Eric S lapped a couple of teams despite great encouragement to Lance Pearson that all he had to do was tuck in behind Eric! Toby Hall finished off for a team time of 45:19.
Three days later our second team of John Barbafeld (who ran a blinder by the way) plus Sam and Kaden Hall, who both also ran very well, helped give Evan Ward, yes another war horse who turned up, a handy lead over the third team of Wayne Smith, John Craven, Dave Boyd and Mal Lochrie. Our second team did 51:17, third team 53:02 with our next team filling 5th spot in 53:35 (Emily, Niall, Mark and Charlee), just behind the Hastings Team. Our 5th club team did 57:19 and that consisted of Lynette, Frank, Lance and Jody.
It was noted that Mark Walwyn and Dave Boyd had a side bet with Mark coming out on top. He has yet to recover!?
