The HBG Road Champs were held round a circuit near Havelock North in good calm but drizzly running conditions.
The first race away was for the Girls and Boys 2k race which saw Georgia Creagh of Napier Harriers convincingly winning her grade by over a minute in 7m21s while Bradley Christison once again defeated his younger brother Thomas in a time of 7m17s with Thomas 9sec back.
The Girls and Boys 14 and under race over 3k saw Kim Douglas of Hastings Harriers winning her race in 11m54s from Sophie Rose of Napier not far behind in 12m02s. Devon Beckman had a good win over his Napier Harrier club mate, Shamus Christison, in the boys race and recorded a time of 10m40s.
Annie Creagh, Napier Harriers, had a much improved run to win the Girls 16 and under 5k race in a good 20m14s while Toa Elphick-Iaveta had a comfortable win in the Boys 16 and under grade over 6k in 20m38s from his Napier club mate Jake Tully. Toa gained selection to the Nationals for this solid run.
Other notable runs came in the Masters grades where Andrea Williams of Hastings Harriers, won over 5k in 20m23s while her fellow club member Phil McKay had an impressive run to claim the Masters men title over 10k in 37m47s. Another stand out performance came from Eric Phimister of Napier Harriers in the Mens 60 and over grade to record a very good 38m55s.
The Senior Womens race over 10k saw a very good run by Ni'ia Hothersall follow up her recent cross country win to record 39m24s and also gain herself selection for the National Road Champs in Christchurch in two weeks time.
The Senior Mens race saw first time Provincial winner William Kelsey of Napier Harriers surprise a few with a good win over 10k in 35m19s from a past winner Neville Smith of Hastings Harriers.
Stefan Smith, formerly Napier Harriers, now in Wellington, won the Wellington 10k title in Wainuiomata in 31m30s to go with his recent provincial cross country title. report Wayne Smith
