Park Island Cross Country
Park Island, Napier
27 June, 2010
Over 40 Napier Harriers braved the extremely muddy underfoot conditions at Park Island for their third open handicap series of races with Toby Hall relishing the conditions to start from the second to back mark and come through for a good 4sec win in the boys and girls 2k 12 years and under race. Toby also gained fastest time from Georgia Creagh.
Jason Pearson had a generous handicap in the boys 14 years and under 4k race to maintain his lead throughout to win by 57sec, he also must have enjoyed the mud.
Jess Middleton had her first race of the season and caught the handicapper napping and secured 1st place followed by "Mum" Michelle with fastest time going to Ni'ia Hothersall with Rita Holmes also having a good run to place 3rd and second fastest time over 6k.
The sloppy underfoot conditions also made handicapping the senior men over 10k rather challenging with Mike Lintott securing 1st place off the front mark to hold off all challenges by 49 sec from Matt Somerville and Eric Speakman with Eric gaining fastest time in a solid 36.39 with the next fastest being the ever improving Masters 45 grade runner Ron Middleton being 10min slower than Eric in 46min 17sec, although there is a 24 year age difference. Ron had a faster time than Craig Mathers for the first time with Craig gaining 3rd fastest time in 46min 51sec. report Wayne Smith
