"Marett Madness"

The relay this year avoided the usual popular river crossing due to the recent rainy weather making the crossing a little risky for the younger runners so an interesting there and back course resulted for this years event. The relay consists of four team members who all ran 3.7k in brilliant fine weather conditions. A good turn-out of 48 runners meant that twelve fairly even teams competed with a good number of new members taking part and team positions changing numerous times. Another 17 youngsters raced separately from the relay. On the first lap Georgia Creagh put her team into first place in a good time of 16m32s followed by closely by Sabastian Moore in 16m40s and Holly Manning 16m42. Lap 2 unfolded with the team order changing with Diana Harbuz bring her team up from 5th to 1st with an individual time of 16m29s followed by Joshua Thompson bringing his team up from 8th to 2nd in 17m16s with Thomas Moore just behind in 18m22s. The fastest lap 2 runner was Isaac Dyer in 16m20s. Lap 3 saw yet more changes with Jason Pearson bringing his team from 2nd to 1st in an individual lap time of 17m30s. Jason just passed Cheryl Simpson at the end of their lap with Cheryl posting a lap time of 18m43s. The third team at the end of lap 3 was secured by a good run by Sophie Rose who came from 6th to 3rd to hand over in 16m35s. Fastest time on lap 3 went to Holly Edmonds who ran a very good time of 15m30s to bring her team up from 12th to 9th. On the fourth lap the leading team remained in front with Ieuan Edmonds holding on in an individual time of 14m51s followed closely by Ron Middleton in 14m56s and Steve Lindsay in 15m22s. The winning team of Corrina Alexander, Joshua Thompson, Jason Pearson and Ieuan Edmonds had a team time of 1hr07m09s with the second team of Jodi Nagel, Isaac Dyer, Sophie Rose and Ron Middleton recording 1hr7m41s followed closely by the third team of Ben Harrison, Diana Harbuz, Cheryl Simpson and Steve Lindsay in 1hr7m45s with the fourth team being only 10sec behind. The Cubs race of 1.5k saw seven youngsters from 6-10 years old race off round their circuit with Kezia Alaxander placing first followed by May Downey and Hannah Keating. The 12 years and under race had ten runners who raced over 3.7k with Joshua Keating winning his first race in 16m46s followed by a determined run by Kingston Webb in 17m47s with third place going to Adam Barron in 18m50s. report by Wayne Smith
