Mission Interclub Cross Country

Napier Harriers running club hosted the annual Reading Cinemas/ Noel Leeming inter-club cross country races at the Mission Estate Winery on Saturday in good running conditions due to the weather clearing in time for the start. This year the 2010 Wellington cross country and road race champion, Stefan Smith, now domiciled in Napier, dominated the mens 6k race , with Phil McKay of Hastings Harriers winning the masters grade also in impressive fashion. Another stand out performance was the excellent run by 12 year old Georgia Creagh beating all the women 14, 16 and 19 year old runners as well as the senior/ masters women in their 4k race. Napier Harriers secured the interclub Sherwood Trophy contest held with Hastings Harriers. The inter-club races catered for athletes from 10 years through to the over 60s with a Cubs race for 7-9 year olds being held as well as an introductory race to cross country running. In conjunction with these races were the Napier Harriers Novice Cup races which are for runners who have never won a harrier race before.
