Hastings Steeples

This Burnard Electrical sponsored event held at the Hastings Showgrounds attracted nearly 100 runners from the Napier and Hastings clubs.

In the younger grades Monique Way from Hastings had a very encouraging run against the boys in their 12 and under race (1.5k) and placed 1st in the girls grade and 2nd overall in 6m 23s behind Joshua Keating from Napier who also ran very well to win the boys grade in 6m 14s.

Another stand out performance came from first year harrier Laura Langley from Napier in the girls 14 and under grade who recorded 12m 33s to comfortably win her race over 3km from youngster Georgia Creagh. An improved Kim Douglas from Hastings ran a good steady race to easily win the girls 16 and under grade over 3km in 12m 24s with Monica Burnard also of Hastings winning the women's 19 under grade (3k) in 12m 10s.

In the heavy underfoot conditions many runners struggled but Toa Elphick-Iaveta, Napier, handled them well to win the boys 16 and under grade as did Neville Smith, Hastings, in winning the seniors over 6k in 20m 31s.
