Registration and Race Times

Registration is behind the Bluewater Hotel from 5:30 with both the Fun Run and Fun Walk starting at 6:00.

The Course - 5km

The course has changed slightly for this series. Start and finish is still at the rear of the Bluewater Hotel with the registration also located here.

From the start head across the bridge over the Ahuriri inlet and turn right across the grass by the phone box, and onto Meeanee Quay, staying on the right hand side of the road all the way past the Scout Hall and up to the end of the street. Dont follow the road around to the left, but proceed ahead over the barrier and up the shingle drive and on to the grassed area.
Stay on the grass right up to the hedge, and turn sharp left AROUND the hedge. The course then returns to the road in Wakariri Ave. Once again, keep to the right hand side of the road up Wakariri Ave, then turn right onto Charles St (the 1km marker is approx 300m down the road abd the short course turns here and heads home - Look out for people turning!
KEEP TO THE RIGHT all the way up Charles Street turning right again at Nott St.
KEEP TO THE RIGHT along Nott St and turn left onto Ferguson Ave KEEPING TO THE RIGHT! all the way along Ferguson Ave, past the Westshore Surf Lifesaving Club and the childrens play area.
Towards the end of Ferguson Ave, where the road meets the new concrete pathway, do a sharp turn onto the pathway and follow it all the way back until it meets up with Charles Street again. KEEP TO THE LEFT along Charles St before turning left back into Wakariri Ave.
At the end of Wakariri Ave turn sharp right going around the hedge and back onto the grassed reserve. Follow the reserve as it becomes a shingle drive and heads back onto Meeanee Quay
KEEP TO THE LEFT up Meeanee Quay and turn left at the phone box, proceeding across the Ahuriri inlet bridge
Cautiously traverse the low chain on your left and head across the grassed area back to the finish at the Bluewater Hotel.

The Course - Short Course (2km)

The short course is the same as the last series and is designed for the younger competitors or the newer competitors who are still not quite up to the 5k level. It is good a start point for entry to the competitive side of running without putting the body under too much stress.
The course is quite simple - folow the main course out to the 1km marker (approx, 15m after the turn out of Wakariri Ave), turn here and re-trace your steps home.

At the Finish

When you cross the finish line there will be a time recorder and place recorder. It is vital to the accurate collection of results that you keep to your finishing order until the place recorder has your race number (which will be on your hand).
It is also important that you do not cross the line more than once!
If you go back on to the course to run/walk in with another competitor, do not cross the line a second time as this obviously creates a false recording in the results.

Prizes

The Shoe Clinic, Napier are offering a $25 voucher at each event and, along with and Brooks Shoes, will be contributing some major spot and performances prizes at the final event.
There are two $25 Bluewater Hotel vouchers available at each round of the Bluewater5 and once again MoreFM and Reading Cinemas are sponsoring a kids pack for the kids to win at each round!
The good people at the Bluewater Hotel have chipped some family mini-putt vouchers for the kids too! (You must be present at prizegiving to be elligible for the spot prizes)

The Points Series

As and incentive to improve your times, points will be awared for beating your previous best time in the series.
As your times get faster, improvement becomes more difficult so the points increase later in the series.
To encourage ongoing improvement a bonus is awarded for beating your best time from the previous series. This 'bonus' is available only once.
As an additional award to the regular attendees 1 point will be awarded for each event attended.
